What gets kept, what gets dropped
| Feature | TTML → VTT |
|---|---|
| Italics | Kept |
| Bold | Kept |
| Underline | Kept |
| Font colour | Kept |
| Positioning | Partially kept |
TTML positioning partially survives: the text alignment and writing direction are kept, but the <region> box geometry (origin and extent) is not.
VTT can additionally express Voice / speaker tags, which you can add in the studio after converting.
About TTML
TTML (Timed Text Markup Language, also seen as DFXP and the IMSC1 profile) is the W3C XML caption standard used across OTT streaming and broadcast delivery. It expresses styling — italics, bold, underline and colour — and text positioning via tts: attributes. Parsing TTML/IMSC/DFXP is a CueForge Pro feature; validate any export against your platform’s current spec before delivery.
About VTT
WebVTT (.vtt) is the W3C captioning format for the HTML5 <track> element and web video. It builds on SubRip with cue settings for on-screen positioning, voice/speaker tags and CSS-class styling, and its timecodes use a period before the milliseconds (00:00:00.000), where SRT uses a comma.
Frequently asked questions
Is converting TTML to VTT free?
Reading TTML (a broadcast format) is a CueForge Pro feature, so this conversion needs Pro — but there is a 7-day free trial, and you won't be charged until it ends. Exporting to VTT and the other core formats (SRT, SBV, ASS) is always free.
Do I have to upload my file?
No — everything is converted in your browser; your file never leaves your device.
Will my formatting be preserved converting TTML to VTT?
Italics, Bold, Underline and Font colour carry across into VTT. TTML positioning partially survives: the text alignment and writing direction are kept, but the <region> box geometry (origin and extent) is not. VTT can additionally express Voice / speaker tags, which you can add after converting.
